As a caregiver, you likely have to juggle many aspects pertaining to your older adult’s care, and it is easy to forget the simpler aspects of house management. However, these simple things can quickly become hidden dangers lurking in your household.

1. Radon

Radon is one of the most toxic hidden dangers lurking in your household, as it is invisible, odorless, and completely tasteless. Since radon is so hard to detect with our senses, it can lurk for years, which can cause deadly side effects.

If you know an older adult living on their own or are a caregiver for one, installing a radon mitigation system in the home is a good idea. This device is convenient for seniors as it will continuously reduce radon levels in the house so that they don’t have to think about testing as frequently.

2. Lint

Consistently cleaning out your lint screen is an important task for anyone. However, remembering to remove the lint from your screen can become increasingly difficult as you age.

If you are a caregiver to seniors or have an older adult living with you, it is an excellent idea to make sure the lint screen in your dryer is entirely free of any materials. Make sure to do this often; as more lint builds up in the dryer, it becomes more of a fire hazard.

3. Random Puddles

If you are a caregiver to seniors or older adults, ensuring that you have modified the house they inhabit is vital because it helps prevent any unexpected dangers or accidents. In that same vein, be on the lookout for any odd puddles around the home, as these can pose serious hazards for seniors.

What’s more, a puddle can signify there is mold somewhere in your house, which is another danger that can irritate the lungs and increase allergies and asthma.
