We all want to decorate our homes to look our best. But over time, we can end up collecting too many decorations. That means we can’t use them all, at least not for their originally intended purposes.

Upcycling your decorations and changing how you use them is the key to getting your money’s worth from them while doing something different inside your home. Keep reading to learn about the three home decorations you can upcycle today.

1. Delicate Doilies

Everyone seems to have a relative who has made tons of doilies and passed them out like treasure. Using doilies the old-fashioned way to protect your tables and other surfaces is fine.

However, once you’ve covered all available space, you have nothing else to do with them, right? Wrong! There are many modern ways to use delicate doilies, such as pinning them inside a frame to hang on the wall, sewing them together into a table runner for special occasions, and even making accessories from them.

2. Battered Books

Many people use books for reading and decorating. But once your book is too old and has pages falling out, you may want to find another purpose for it.

While plenty of people just throw old books in the recycling bin and move on, you don’t have to. You can rip the pages out of an old book and arrange them on the wall like a mural or roll the old pages and glue them down to a circle to turn into a wreath.

3. Vintage Vases

Vases are functional pieces of home décor, but when you have too many of them, they become more like dust collectors. Luckily, there are some ways you can redress your vases for better display options. Consider painting an old glass vase in a bright new color to bring it back to life.

Consider changing colored vases’ textures by mixing paint with baking soda or another kind of powder and painting it on. Your vases will feel more like pottery than glass, which may inspire you to use them in different ways, such as placing them outside.

The three home decorations you should consider upcycling are old doilies, books, and vases. These pieces of home décor that have seen better days can still turn into something new and beautiful with the right tender loving care and some elbow grease. Refresh your doilies, books, and vases today so that you can continue to use these decorations.
