What better way to declutter than preventing stuff you don’t need from coming into your house in the first place?

To help you do this, you should wait 24 hours after you feel the urge to buy something. This will help you understand the difference between buying something you don’t need and buying something essential.

The compulsion will go away in 24 hours, but your need won’t. If you need to buy something because it’s on sale, weigh the pros and cons of having it before purchasing it to get a feel for whether you need it.

2. Regularly Clean Your House

Regularly cleaning your house keeps clutter from piling up. Immediately make your bed after getting up in the morning, and don’t dump your clothes in a waste basket and leave them there for a few days.

Pick up any toys that may have accumulated from children throughout the house and put them in their designated area. When your kids get older, teach them to put their toys away immediately. Doing this will keep you from feeling overwhelmed and maintain the clutter.

3. Put Things in the Same Spot

Passive items are things like that slow cooker you use occasionally but not often enough to warrant it being front and center in your home. You might want to put the books you’re currently reading next to your bed or favorite reading nook for ease of use. Put your keys next to the door so that you aren’t constantly looking for them. This minimalist habit helps you declutter your home tremendously.
