When it comes to interior design, people usually tend to focus more on shared areas of their home and seem to forget about those basically only they will see. That’s why the master bedroom usually gets all the way down on the list of decorating priorities as people often tend to forget the importance of this room. Even though not all of your friends will get to see the room and admire its glory, that doesn’t mean that this room doesn’t deserve some love. Au contraire!

The master bedroom is the place where you’re – arguably – at your most vulnerable. That’s where you retreat after every hectic day and lay to rest until the next morning. It is definitely one of the most important rooms in your home as it needs to be set up in such a way that it promotes relaxation and healthy sleeping habits. So, unless it already does so, roll up your sleeves and get down to some serious decorating.

1. Bow down to the king!

The most important element in any bedroom is certainly the bed. While there are many options you can choose from when it comes to this piece of furniture, do know that a king-size bed is usually the best way to go. It offers plenty of room to you and your partner and if you’re single, you’ll get to enjoy all the sleeping space by yourself! Therefore, make sure you carefully choose the style of the bed you want to incorporate into your design.

If, on the other hand, you already have a bed you’re entirely satisfied with size and comfort-wise, but you’re not quite sure about the style and design, there are still some things you can do about it. For starters, do know that changing the headboard can sometimes entirely change the look of your bed. Additionally, if you invest in some stylish bed covers and obtain just a few interesting throw pillows, you will turn your one boring bed into a luxurious statement piece.

2. Go for meaningful additions

Furthermore, when decorating your master bedroom, don’t go too crazy with the design and certainly avoid overstuffing the space. After all, this is your BEDROOM and it should promote relaxation, not encourage activity and engagement. That’s why, when choosing other things you want to include in your bedroom try to focus solely on the things that make sense. For instance, you can benefit a lot form implementing nightstands on either side of the bed and adding an area rug that will be just somewhat bigger than your bed.

This way, you will beautifully anchor this area of the room and visually separate it from the rest of the design. Moreover, create a reading nook in your bedroom and make it as comfortable and relaxing as possible. Aside from a good floor lamp, you should also invest in comfortable seating furniture, such as this adorable egg chair to ensure that you’re supported properly during your reading sessions. Finally, you can even add bedding storage at the foot of your bed that can double as seating so that you have a place to store all of your covers without creating visual clutter in the room.

3. Indulge your senses

Finally, one can only truly relax once all of their senses are happy, so that’s another thing you need to try to achieve in your master bedroom. When setting the space up, don’t just focus your efforts on trying to make it look good. Also, focus on trying to make it smell and feel good. So, get yourself some nice bed sheets – even invest in luxurious pieces if you feel like it. Furthermore, add a small, soft area rug in your little reading nook to boost the comfort.

Additionally, research air humidifiers and see if using one will improve your sleep. Spoiler alert, it should – significantly. On the same note, add some gorgeous plants, essential oil dispenser or scented candles to your bedroom and use them not only to make the space smell absolutely amazing but to also set up the mood every time you need some extra help. In the end, make sure you install lighting dimmers or even remotely-controlled lighting fixtures to avoid having to get out of super cozy bed in order to turn off the lights.

These were just some fun little tips you can try out when assembling your dream master bedroom. Keep in mind that even though not a lot of people will get to see this very special place, it still needs to look good and feel good so that you can enjoy spending time in it the way you’re meant to.
