Consumption has dominated consumer trends for the last few decades, and clutter is the natural result. Living in all of that can drain a lot from a person, so read on to learn more about starting your clutter-free lifestyle today.

1. Separate Work From Home

Many people face a big issue when trying to live a clutter-free lifestyle: they can go so far in their home lives, but their work is an entirely different problem. When working, people often find their desks full of papers, pens, files, and unnecessary stuff. It can be overwhelming, and this problem persists for many working at home.

To live a fully clutter-free lifestyle, you must apply the philosophy to all aspects of your life. For example, bring organizational folders to work, keep your desk clear, and manage your email inbox. Unfortunately, digital clutter is still a form of clutter that quickly weighs you down.

2. Downsize Your Home

One of the best ways to begin a clutter-free lifestyle is by downsizing your home or planning to downsize. Part of the reason why people have so many things is they feel the need to fill their home, and inevitably, it becomes a little too much. Downsizing is an excellent choice because it almost forces you to live clutter-free, as the smallest amount of stuff can quickly overwhelm you.

You should start early and develop an organizational system that fits you to make downsizing easier. In the downsizing process, you’ll need to evaluate everything in your home; is it meaningful to you, or is it taking up valuable space?

3. Reevaluate Spending Habits

Another great way to start your clutter-free lifestyle is to break down your spending habits. Some people understand that they can eliminate one or two things they buy regularly, but this isn’t enough. You need to consider every purchase you make and ask, “Do I want to carry this around in my home for the next decade?”

Many spur-of-the-moment purchases on Amazon or at the store take up space, and you hardly ever use them. Instead, you should regularly use every item you purchase.

These clutter-free lifestyle tips won’t entirely turn your life around, but they can help make things much simpler. Of course, you can never eradicate clutter, but by having only a small amount of stuff here and there, your home will feel more spacious and livable.

Additionally, your mind will feel much less weighed down, as you won’t have to bear the burden of needing to buy every little thing that you see.
