4 Unique Ways To Attract Birds to Your Property

Having birds on your property is beneficial for a few reasons. They provide a sustainable pest-removal service and add some nice aesthetics to your home.

It can be challenging to attract the ones you want, especially if you don’t have the right supplies. Here are a few unique ways to attract birds to your property.

1. Set Up Feeders and Nesting Boxes

One of the most common ways homeowners attract birds to their property is by setting up feeders or nesting boxes throughout the space. Providing birds with food and shelter during nesting will increase the local bird population and make it more likely you’ll have some in your yard.

Feeders with seeds, sugar, and fruit will entice a variety of bird species, adding some color to your property. Nesting boxes will give them a safe and secure environment to lay eggs and rear their young. Placing boxes in the ideal location will ensure predators and other animals can’t reach them.

2. Create a Garden or Plant Flowers

Encouraging birds to visit your garden is another surefire way to increase the population on your property. Birds prefer trees where they can perch and flowers that provide pollen. Planting the right types will ensure your yard is full of activity.

Creating a bird-friendly garden starts with knowing which species you want to attract. Fruit trees, evergreens, and shrubs offer the best shelter and shade. Sunflowers, elderberry trees, and honeysuckle will attract nectar-collecting species, such as hummingbirds, chickadees, and warblers.

3. Make Sure There’s a Water Source

Birds will only be able to make the most of feeders, nesting boxes, or plants if they have something to drink nearby. A well-placed water source will make birds feel right at home. Installing them in a central location will allow you to watch them throughout the day.

Like any animals, birds need to drink water to quench their thirst and bathe to stay clean. Fountains, ponds, and birdbaths are excellent solutions that make great additions to your yard. Sloping sides and shallow water will allow them to use the space effectively.

4. Improve the Biodiversity

Getting the most out of your property means increasing biodiversity and attracting various species. For bird lovers, attracting feathered friends with feeders, nesting boxes, gardens, and a quality water source can make the space more inviting.

Learning a few unique ways to attract birds to your property will allow you to enjoy the outdoors while appreciating the beauty of nature.
