5 Creative Ways To Upgrade Your Home Exterior Design By Yourself

Share

Everyone likes to have a nice looking house and a landscaped yard, but rarely anyone wants to put up with hard work that comes with upgrading your home exterior design. Even though you may think that upgrading your house exterior design requires a big budget, there are things you can do for your home without spending two or three paychecks.

Paying attention to details and overall appeal will make your house shine compared to the neighbors’. No matter the weather, you can always do little updates on your house that will make it stand out.

1. Clean your yard

Before spending any money on your physical house, clean your front and backyard first. Overall curb appeal depends on a yard a lot more then it does on the actual house. Ask the members of your family to help you sweep the sidewalk, clean the main entrance of the house and paint the gate and the fence. This could turn into a fun family activity. Don’t forget to rake the leaves from your backyard and mow the lawn.

If you have any old and faulty gadgets, things, and furniture in your yard that can no longer be used, recycle them or throw them away. Clean out all the things that are unnecessary in your yard. In case you have extra space, plant some flowers or trees, or even grow some vegetables. Remember to water, weed and prune your plants regularly.

2. Install the new windows

To preserve your home’s overall curb appeal, replace the old windows with the new ones. As windows take up most of the space on the walls, try maintaining them in good condition and keeping them clean. Quality house windows can last up to a couple of decades, but eventually, they will reach a point when you won’t be able to close them properly and they won’t be energy efficient, so you should consider replacing them.

Your new windows don’t have to be modern ones. If you prefer a rustic look, windows with wooden frames are always a good choice. You can even place pots with flowers below the ledge which will give your house a special charm.

3. Set an outdoor sitting section

If you want to make your house more inviting and friendly, add outdoor seating. Consider adding a cozy sitting area on your front porch that would be ideal for small gatherings and groups of friends. It doesn’t have to be a sumptuous love seat or a couch. A few chairs or a wooden bench could also do the trick and add to the charm as well.

In case you don’t have a front porch or you want it decorated in another way, you can still set a sitting area in your yard. It’s usually more spacious and is suitable for larger gatherings such as a Sunday barbecue with friends, family, and neighbors. If you have a lovely and comfortable sitting section, you’ll probably get to host more similar events.

4. Paint your house

If you decide to walk down the street in any Australian suburban settlement, you can’t help but notice how most of the houses are blandly colored. If you want your house to truly stand out in that environment, you will have to paint it. This is a hard job, and you most likely won’t be able to finish it in one day, but nothing can change the way a house looks more than that. It’s hard to find a nicely done house and roof painting in Sydney so you should maybe consider asking professionals for help.

To have your house shine and stand out, you don’t need to opt for bright colors. Neutral colors such as beige or pastel yellow would look great with both, modern and rustic style. You can even experiment with colors and try the daring red or deep blue, depending on what style you’re aiming at.

5. Pay attention to details

I

Once you’ve finished with major changes to your exterior design, you should think about adding some details.  Start by getting a new mailbox. This doesn’t seem like an important thing, but it’s essential for the first impression. It’s one of the first things your guests see when they enter your yard. It’s a nice touch and easy to replace.

Consider implementing outdoor lighting. It makes your home stand out at night and makes it safer for late-night visitors. You might even want to go out of your way and add lights to your seating area to give off the welcoming vibe.

Taking into consideration that every household has light bulbs that no longer function, instead of throwing them away, you can make decorations for your garden or wall. All you need is old light bulbs and some paint to create amazing decorations out of recycled material.

Final Thought

As you can see, upgrading your home exterior design doesn’t have to be as hard as it seems. All you need is goodwill and some time. Everything can be done on a budget so you don’t have to worry about spending too much money on something that seemed so trivial but yet is so important. Having a home that looks nice from the outside as it does on the inside is essential for your sense of belonging and well being, so don’t be afraid to change something about your house.
