5 Tips for Decorating Your Kids’ Room on a Budget

Share

The kids’ room is the room in the house where you have the most freedom to let your creativity loose. Colorful walls, practical furniture, and fun designs are all welcome in this part of the house but getting caught up in the process, you might end up spending a fortune on something that your kids will get bored of very soon.

So, when it comes to decorating this room, you should find practical solutions that will allow you to stay on budget while still making fun and stimulating environment. Here are a few tips for that.

1. Wall paint

The walls are some of the largest surfaces in your kids’ room, so decorating them will make a huge impact. It is also a generally affordable project, and it’s not permanent, so you can change it up once your kids get older and get bored with the design. You have virtually endless options here. Since this is the kids’ room, after all, you don’t have to go for boring beige or white (in fact, it’s better if you steer clear of white).

You can even choose two or three colors, for example, light blue with yellow or lime green with lavender and dark green and create a pattern using masking tape! Or you can make a feature wall and paint it with chalkboard paint to create an incredible platform for creativity. Just make sure you keep the color scheme bright and lively.

2. Wall décor

Even if painting the wall in a fancy way is too much hassle, there are still fantastic wall decor solutions that are cheap and easy to implement. Wall decals and wall stickers are trendy, and your kids will love them if you choose designs that they are interested in.

You can create entire scenes on the wall by sticking to a theme, for instance, woodland creatures or space. These decals are usually easily removable, so you won’t have to worry about redecorating the room later. This is yet another way to decorate your kids’ room on a budget.

3. Color for the furniture

So you want your kids’ furniture to be cute and colorful, but going out and buying new pieces is not a smart investment idea. How about DIY-ing a little? Earlier, we talked about wall painting, but you can also paint the furniture of the kids’ room to fun colors, and it won’t even break the bank!

The bed frame, the shelves, the desk, and the chair are all great candidates for this project, and your only limit is your creativity. You don’t even have to paint the entire piece of furniture either, just painting the top of the desk, for instance, is already a significant upgrade. This is yet another way to decorate your kids’ room on a budget.

4. Don’t let toys break the bank

Every kids’ room needs toys, and sometimes these expenses can cause concerns for parents. Especially since kids get bored of their toys very fast, it is obvious that getting those super expensive playsets is not the brightest idea in terms of your budget. So, there are a few tips that you could stick to. First of all, think about the value of the toy in question. Instead of those $100 plastic toys that will break after 1 use, buy childrens wooden puzzles that are educational and made of natural materials.

As for old toys that are no longer your kids’ favorite, you could find parents in the same situation and exchange some toys or even sell them. You can also recycle some materials and turn them into toys; playing with these will boost the imagination of your kids, too.

5. Come up with creative storage solutions

You will also need to store all those toys somewhere, and if you don’t want the kids’ room to be in a constant state of chaos, you should come up with creative storage solutions. If you make the storage solutions interesting enough, putting away toys can become a fun activity that your kids will gladly do.  Wicker baskets are a popular solution, but to make them more interesting, you could spray paint or label them. Installing strong hooks on the door or the wall can also be a lifesaver – you an even hang tote bags on them that will serve as storage.

Decorating your kids’ room is fun and exciting, but don’t get too carried away. You might need to decorate your kids’ room on a budget. Hopefully, the aforementioned tips will help you stay within budget and still create a beautiful space for your kids.
