Fountains are beautiful water features. Adding them to your garden pond will not only create aeration for the water but also give it a stunning look. Operating a fountain pond with lights in the late evening for a few hours will enhance its aesthetic appeal.

There are two types of fountains, i.e. decorative and aeration and you can buy pond fountains depending on your requirement. Although both of these provide surface aeration, an aeration fountain provides more aeration through more water movement.

A fountain usually requires 1 – 1.5 hp per acre. It keeps the water of your pond clean, improves water quality, reduces algae, odor, and mosquito breeding, and makes a healthy ecosystem for fish and other aquatic creatures.

3. Algae

While a little bit of algae can give a natural look, it can make your pond look like a gross water pit if you do not control its growth. As mentioned earlier, pond fountain can reduce algae growth and keep the water clean.

As algae grows in sunlight, try to keep your pond away from it. You can add frogs or tadpoles as they can eat the algae and keep your pond clean.

Also ensure that the ammonia, phosphates, and nitrites are within safe limits. A temperature of 15 degrees Celsius is perfect when you are adding fish to your pond.

If you blend your pond with aquatic plants, frogs might love it and come automatically to your pond. Frogs are other beautiful creatures that will not only make your pond look natural but also keep mosquitoes and algae away.

You can also make a ladder so that the fogs can freely get in and out of the pond or move around. While you might love the sound of frogs at night, your neighbors may find them noisy. Hence, make sure that your garden pond is away from the neighbors.
