How You Can Best Display Your Train Models

Share

Collecting model trains is a huge hobby of many people across the world, as impressive engineering is something that comes out well in a model.

However, a train model isn’t an easy thing to store around your home, due to its unusual shape. That’s why we’ll cover some ways people can best display their train models in their homes.

Rules of Display

There are dozens of ways you can display your trains around your home, and each one can work well. However, there are some general rules you should follow before you put anything on display.

First, your trains should be in direct sunlight or in a very humid place. Also, make sure to dry and dust them often to prevent damage over time. You should also know the differences between N scale and HO scale models so you can get the right-sized displays.

Wall Shelves

If you have a lot of different train models you want up on display, then long, thin wall shelves can be a great option. You can put a train on each shelf up and down a wall, creating a whole wall of trains all of your own design. The greatest difficulty here is getting a long enough wall to house a full train model.

Table Layout

Another popular style for train model display would be a table layout, where you set up a table somewhere in your house to put up a train.

This is a great way to put down a track for your train as well, creating a more realistic setup for your display. However, this can take a lot of room and doesn’t stack well, making mass displays of several models difficult.

Create a Landscape

The last but most intensive and impressive display option we’ll explore here today is the full landscape option. It’s similar to a regular table layout, but it typically features a whole landscape instead of just a table and train model.

This requires a lot of prep and setup, as you create the landscape and fit your train into it. This can be as impressive as you want since you will create the landscape yourself, but it takes up just as much room as the table layout.

These are just a few of the popular ways people display their train models in their own homes. Each one is a great option, and it’s up to you to decide which one would best fit your home.

One thing a lot of people do is create one landscape display and use wall shelves for the rest of their trains. So, feel free to mix and match whatever styles you want in your displays.
