3 Awesome Tips for Decluttering Your Garage Workshop

The new year is the perfect time to tackle those home improvement projects you’ve been putting off. Start with one entrance to your home—the garage.

Does your garage workshop consist of more clutter than actual space to work? If so, try utilizing these tips for decluttering your garage workshop to help you get back to using your workspace more efficiently.

1. Use Shelving and Wall Storage

If clutter covers your garage workbench and floor, try building upward and utilizing your wall space. Installing shelves is a smart way to store some of the items you don’t use as often out of the way while still maintaining access when you need them.

You can also install a pegboard on the walls or add overhead cabinets to make more use of your wall space and provide extra storage solutions.

2. Organize Your Important Materials

Whether it’s small parts that always become lost or important safety gear, you should ensure everything has its place in your garage workshop. Keeping your materials organized will help you be more efficient while you’re completing projects.

If you use your garage as a home foundry or machine workshop, ensure you store your essential home foundry safety gear or machining safety equipment nearby, where you’ll have easy access to it before you start working.

3. Donate What You Don’t Need

While you’re organizing your tools and other workshop items, you may come across items that you just don’t use anymore. If this is the case for you, don’t throw them back in with the rest of your belongings.

Set them aside to donate or give to friends and neighbors. The fewer items you have to organize, the easier the decluttering job will be next time.

Don’t let your workspace become a messy storage closet in your home. Whether you’re trying to organize better or make more room to work, use these tips for decluttering your garage workshop.
