4 Common Problems of Selling Coastal Properties

When watching any film or TV show, they portray a coastal home as serene and relaxing as possible. While most of that is true, they never depict what it’s like to sell a property on the shore.

These are some common problems someone could face when selling coastal properties.

1. Bad Foundation

A weak foundation is common in many old houses, regardless of location. However, that concern is prominent when it’s a coastal property. Because it’s near the shoreline, soil erosion becomes even more widespread, which is why proper insulation is paramount.

It won’t take long for a home inspector to bring this bad news to light, reducing the value of your property. Many buyers steer clear of any homes with structural damage like a crumbling foundation, and rightfully so. A compromise between buying and selling may be the only way you can sell the home.

2. Mold Concerns

Elevated moisture levels increase the likelihood of mold wreaking havoc on beachside houses. These flaws may result in foul odors and rot and even put your health in danger.

Mold treatment, cleaning, and removal services may be quite beneficial when preparing your house for sale, or you may have a tough time selling your home if it smells funky.

3. Salt Buildup

Moving to the coast to hear the soothing sounds of the waves crashing against the shoreline isn’t all sunshine and rainbows as you imagined. The salty water can lead to a slew of issues, causing buildup to the integral parts of your home.

When there is excessive salt buildup, the window frames and other surfaces tend to rust and corrode. It can be a tough sell if you don’t have functional windows because the salt buildup ruined them.

4. Lack of Curb Appeal

The outdoor furniture may be the least of your worries, but it puts the finishing touches on your beautiful coastline property. When selling a home, boosting curb appeal is of the utmost importance. And having outdoor furniture that is boring, drab, and out of style isn’t doing you any favors. Replacing your furniture with something trendier and more modern may intrigue a curious eye to evaluate your property.

It’s a dream for many to live on the coastline, but the most common problems of selling coastal properties probably weren’t part of your fantasy. Fortunately, putting money into your home before you bid it adieu can net the return you were hoping to earn.
