4 Essential Home Renovations to Make Before Winter

As we fall into winter weather, we feel sluggish and do not have the energy to get through the day. That’s okay to do when the snow starts falling, but there are projects we need to complete before frigid weather sets in.

So as you prepare your projects, here are four home renovations to make before winter.

1. Renovate a Room

If you have a spare room that could use an upgrade or envision adding on an extra bedroom, now’s the right time to do it before the cold sets in. Renovating an area of the home can boost your home’s value and provide extra room for overnight guests.

Even if you don’t have room on the main level, consider improving your basement by adding bedding and furniture to use as a spare living room.

2. Replacing Your Windows

If your home’s old and you haven’t found the time to change out the windows and suffered through drafts and chills last winter, now’s the time to replace them. Replacing the windows not only boosts your home value but also saves on energy costs.

Properly insulated windows can keep homes warm and block the elements from disturbing the interior of your home.

3. Updating the Bathroom

We understand the struggle of keeping up with home renovations, but one renovation you need to consider is a bathroom update. For instance, while upgrading your bathroom, replace old vanities with modern ones, and change the lighting. If you want to go all out, add in a new walk-in tub or shower.

A bathroom renovation takes time, so make minor improvements to help you take your mind off of the snow.

4. Paint the Exterior

As the weather gets chillier, we need to take care of the exterior to prevent damage to the foundation. As you rework your exterior siding, patch up any cracks and holes with caulk. The caulk helps block out cold air and water from entering.

Protecting the exterior of your home is crucial, specifically when the mercury drops. A decrease in mercury creates potential problems you need to deal with later. One of these issues is moisture buildup, which prevents the paint from curing and drying all the way through.

As you fix up your home, it’s best to paint the exterior now as we’re currently in the middle of autumn. Additionally, painting before can save time and money from making repairs later on.

While you fix up your home, it’s crucial to make home repairs, especially from our list of the four home renovations to complete before winter. Then, as you move through your process, make the improvements needed to get your home updated to your standards.
