4 Splendid Tips to Increase the Amount of Natural Light in Your House

Natural light helps us feel refreshed and gain that vitamin C. We mustn’t rely too much on artificial lighting or else we might develop depression and become more stressed.

To brighten up your home, here are some tips to increase the amount of natural light in your house.

1. Add Shiny Objects and Mirrors

Every time the sun shines into a room, it bounces off any reflective objects to extend its light further. By adding small shiny things and items with a mirror-like appearance, you can add more light to your home. Some items you should consider adding include:

  • Wall mirrors
  • Glass- or chrome-accented furniture
  • Shiny cabinet handles
  • Metallic ceiling finish

2. Use a Proper Color Palette

Color can improve the appearance of a room and give off the illusion that it’s bigger. White does work, but it can actually make the room too bright, resulting in discomfort.

Darker tones are actually best for increasing natural light because they absorb light better than white or pale colors such as yellow.

You might also consider using reflective paint finishes such as:

  • Satin
  • Shiny
  • Semi-gloss

3. Change Your Furniture

Updating the furniture from time to time can modernize a space while expanding natural light. For instance, when you’re selecting a new furniture set, go for one made with an accented marble finish.

To adorn that, add neutral- to darker-toned pillows to balance the room. Some other items you can add to the room to make it brighter include:

  • Throw blankets or pillows
  • Artwork
  • Small metal furniture pieces

4. Install Bigger Windows

One last thing you can do to brighten the space more is to add bigger windows, such as a curved bay window. A bay window is large enough to not only show off the best views but also deliver enough sunlight to make the room feel bigger and a lot happier. Replacing old windows with new, bigger ones also allows for improved ventilation and increased natural light.

When adding new things to your house, focus on the amount of light that pours in every day. If there’s barely enough, then it’s time to find new ways to increase the amount of natural light in your home.

Updating your home to allow more light improves your mental and physical health in many ways. Don’t forget to spoil your home with new fixtures to lessen your use of artificial lighting and to use more natural light from outside.
