5 Ways to Dress Up Boring Interior Doors

Do your interior doors seem plain? Doors are usually supposed to be functional, not pretty, but who says they can’t be both?

For those who want to give their drab and depressing doors an upgrade, here are five unique ways to dress up boring interior doors.

1. Architectural Details

Adding a few architectural details to your door can make it look less plain and fancier. You can use rosette or corner blocks to decorate the corners of the trim.

Plinth blocks are great for smoothing out the transition between the baseboard and the door trim. And don’t forget about appliques—you can use these versatile 3D decorations to give your door subtle detail.

2. A Nail-Headed Trim

Do you think metal studs on clothing looks cool? Then you’ll love the way they look on doors!

A nail-headed trim is exactly what it sounds like; you take nail heads or studs, arrange them in an intricate pattern, and either insert them directly into the door or attach them to a cloth and tack the studded cloth to the door. This detailing gives doors a sophisticated and regal look.

3. Wallpaper

Another way to dress up boring interior doors is with wallpaper. Using peel and stick wallpaper is a fantastic way to add some color, depth, and pattern to your doors.

Pick out any wallpaper you like and attach it to your door. Wash the door beforehand and take off the peel and stick’s backing. Then stick, smooth, and you’re done! You can ornament your door’s panels exclusively or go all out and cover the entire thing.

4. Washi Tape

On a similar note, you can also use washi tape to decorate your doors. Washi tape is a decorative adhesive tape made from traditional Japanese paper. It comes in a variety of designs, from plain to patterned, so you have plenty of options to choose from. Use washi tape to create a classy door border, an abstract design, or a pop of color.

5. A New Color

A new coat of paint can make a world of difference. If your doors feel plain, it may be because they’re a boring, standard shade, like white or brown. Painting doors a bold color can make them stand out in a good way.
