From the enticing sound of a waterfall to the colorful water lilies, a pond is a place for you to sit and relax. There’s something peaceful and soothing about water which makes it the heart of your garden.

A garden pond is a place where beautiful fish will frolic and dragonflies will dance. It is not just a place but a beautiful ecosystem in itself. You can buy pond fountains, fish, rocks, plants and blend them to make a stunning property.

Plants are a beautiful way to add zing to your pond. Water lilies and cattails tend are simple, but eye-catching plants for all ponds. With vibrant colors, the lilies give a very attractive look to your ponds. The beautiful flowers will definitely take your heart away.

On the other hand, cattails can be placed around the edges to give your pond a clean look. However, make sure that the cattails aren’t planted too deep as they will not grow. You can add plenty of plants outside and inside your pond to make it look natural.

Fountains are beautiful water features. Adding them to your garden pond will not only create aeration for the water but also give it a stunning look. Operating a fountain pond with lights in the late evening for a few hours will enhance its aesthetic appeal.

There are two types of fountains, i.e. decorative and aeration and you can buy pond fountains depending on your requirement. Although both of these provide surface aeration, an aeration fountain provides more aeration through more water movement.

A fountain usually requires 1 – 1.5 hp per acre. It keeps the water of your pond clean, improves water quality, reduces algae, odor, and mosquito breeding, and makes a healthy ecosystem for fish and other aquatic creatures.

3. Algae

While a little bit of algae can give a natural look, it can make your pond look like a gross water pit if you do not control its growth. As mentioned earlier, pond fountain can reduce algae growth and keep the water clean.

As algae grows in sunlight, try to keep your pond away from it. You can add frogs or tadpoles as they can eat the algae and keep your pond clean.

Adding fish can add to the look of your pond. There are various types of fish such as goldfish, catfish, and koi. Goldfish however remains a favorite choice as they require less maintenance and can live for years.

As chlorine is not healthy for fish, make sure that your pond is not filled up with chlorinated water. The temperature of your pond water should be right in summers as well as winters so that your fish are healthy. A water depth of 24’is recommended for both koi and goldfish.

Also ensure that the ammonia, phosphates, and nitrites are within safe limits. A temperature of 15 degrees Celsius is perfect when you are adding fish to your pond.

5. Frog

If you blend your pond with aquatic plants, frogs might love it and come automatically to your pond. Frogs are other beautiful creatures that will not only make your pond look natural but also keep mosquitoes and algae away.

You can also make a ladder so that the fogs can freely get in and out of the pond or move around. While you might love the sound of frogs at night, your neighbors may find them noisy. Hence, make sure that your garden pond is away from the neighbors.

A surrounding landscape will give a natural look to your pond, making it stand out as a center of attraction. You can use rock that could be easily found in your area.

Your pond is not just meant to be a hole in the garden that is filled with water. It is the landscape that makes it beautiful. There are various things that can be added to give it a majestic appearance.

Adding a water feature, custom lighting, fountains, fish, plants and rockery can help you to create a clean, beautiful, and odorless pond.
