7 Things You Need To Know Before Redesigning Your Wardrobe

Wardrobe redesigning can be one of the toughest decisions to make when you’re remodeling your home. You can never have enough wardrobe space and you would expect your wardrobe designing to not only leave you with a better but a bigger wardrobe as well. But there’s a lot that goes into designing a good wardrobe. So here are some tips for you while you’re redesigning your closet space.

1. Focus on More Space

While redesigning your wardrobe, keep your focus on increasing storage space. While you’re focusing on changing the color or design of the wardrobe, make sure that it doesn’t cost you the storage space of your wardrobe. Always remember that the requirement and role of a wardrobe is to keep clothes so make sure that your redesigned wardrobe is adequately fulfilling that.

2. Shelves

It’s always a good idea to increase storage space of a wardrobe by adding more shelves to it. Remember that shelves are able to store more folded clothes than hangers. So if you want more space in your closet, go for more shelves. You can also opt for adjustable shelves which will give you more flexibility. Adjustable shelves give you the option to adjust more space whenever you need it and if there is enough space for it.

3. Space For your Valuables

Always create a secret shelf or space for all your valuables. There should be a separate drawer or a small cupboard for important things like documents, money, precious jewellery etc. So if you’re getting your wardrobe redesigned, you might want to keep this one in mind and get it done. It will take away the stress of you having to store away your valuables in different places and then forgetting about them.

4. Design and Color

There are many designs and colors available for your wardrobe. Your interior designer or contractor will be able to give you a variety of designs and colors to choose from. Take your time to decide on a unique design and color. Feel free to play around with the elements of a wardrobe like doors and colors. If you have a small room which makes it difficult to open your wardrobe doors, you can always opt for sliding doors which also look very trendy.

You do not have to comply with the color theme of the rest of the house for your wardrobe. You can choose a different color for your wardrobe. That will add more color and life to the room.

5. Shoes

Whether you want to store your shoes in your wardrobe or create a separate storage space for them, is a decision you can make when getting your wardrobe redesigned. It might be a good idea to get a separate closet built or designed just for your shoes so that your wardrobe can store more clothes.

6. Hooks

Hooks are your best friends when your tired self is too lazy to fold and keep clothes in the closet. You can just hang your clothes or even bags on these hooks till you’re ready to fold them. So don’t forget to get lots and lots of hooks in your wardrobe.

7. Material

There are synthetic and natural materials available for your wardrobe. You can choose from natural material like timber or go for synthetic ones like laminate. This will mainly depend on the budget you have set for your wardrobe redesigning and the amount you can afford to spend on the material. Also, make sure that the material of your wardrobe is the same as the material that you’ve used in the rest of the house. If you have chosen a high end, luxurious theme for the rest of the house with natural material, then you must go for natural material for your wardrobe as well.

8. Lighting

Lighting in your wardrobe is extremely important because it will tell you the true color of your clothes when you’re getting ready and help you match the right pants with the right shirt. LED lighting sensors are one of the most suitable ones for wardrobe lighting, but then again this depends on what kind of light do you want or whether you even need light in your wardrobe.

If you have a walk in closet, you definitely need some good lighting. But if your wardrobe is small and you have a separate dressing room, then you might not need a light inside your closet.

Conclusion

Redesigning your wardrobe means making some important decisions regarding the requirement and design of your wardrobe. Avoid getting complicated designs for your wardrobe during wardrobe redesigning because they might hinder with your ease to use it. Go for simple yet trendy designs that make it comfortable and easy for you to use your wardrobe, especially on the days you’re running late for your client meeting!
