How to Plan a Child-Friendly Kitchen

Child- Friendly kitchen

The kids tend to play everywhere around the house. If you are a parent, you surely experienced or are currently experiencing the problem of your children running around everywhere and playing. Most of the time, these kids have toys with them that they carry around.

As a parent, you might have scolded your children because they are playing in dangerous areas. One of the most dangerous areas that children might go to and play in the kitchen. If you plan to remodel the kitchen or want to have items that are safe for your child, here are some of the ways that they can make the kitchen safer for the children.

1. Put kids’ items on areas that they can reach

When you have a storage space that kids can reach, they can prepare kiddie meals and not ask for assistance in reaching them. Kids as early as four years old can make simple snacks and prepare their milk.

On the other hand, objects that should be out of reach of children should be in places that they could not reach even if they try to. The best storage space for sharp objects and toxic materials are in the kitchen cabinets where children could not reach them even if they try to with a stool.

2. Make sure that kids can only access everything they’re allowed to

One thing of making kids safe in the kitchen is making sure that they cannot reach sharp materials and other foreign objects that may endanger them. However, this is not the most secure thing to do, especially if you got toddlers crawling on the house.

Perhaps, one of the ways that their safety is ensured is to have storage spaces locked. In this way, they would not get items that can hinder them. Cabinets, refrigerators, and even electric outlets could be locked that kids could never open or touch them.

3. Have child-friendly items in the kitchen space

Because children are a part of the household, it is just right that there are items that they can use, which are safe. For instance, you can add plastic kitchenware instead of the ones made from metal, ceramics, and glass.

Having plastic as an alternative item for everything is good because kitchenware can slip away from the hands of your children. Plastics never break because of falling, which makes it a greater item for kids to use.

4. Let children have their space in the kitchen

There is nothing wrong with letting kids have their workstation in the kitchen. This leads to kids being able to know how to cook in the kitchen at an early age. As a parent, you should let the children be with you in the kitchen and let them cook with you.

They should also never be refrained from having responsibilities in the kitchen even though they are kids. They should know the sense of responsibility in this age because, in the long run, they will need it. Kids as early as five can already help in washing the dishes. Kids aged eight and nine can even cook their meals.
